"Bridging sectors for sustainable innovation"
TETHYS aims to facilitate Turkey's green transformation and enhance inclusive and sustainable growth for the Turkish economy and industry. It focuses on maintaining and strengthening competitiveness in exports to the EU, improving Turkey's integration into global value chains and increasing its share of international investments. Additionally, TETHYS strives to enhance coordination with the EU through field studies, surveys, and data support for revisions and changes in regulations, as well as reduce potential costs for the policies targeted by the European Green Deal on the Turkish economy and industry through technical legal regulations.
Furthermore, TETHYS aims to create awareness and build collaboration among all stakeholders, promote financial risk management, and provide training programs, seminars, and workshops to align companies with international standards. It supports the development of technical and legal infrastructure for green finance and sustainability to increase Turkey's share in international green finance and green investments.
TETHYS intends to improve the efficient use of existing energy efficiency financing sources, develop new resources, and direct international investors and fund providers toward energy efficiency investments in Turkey through workshops, conferences, and other necessary activities. Under the National Energy Efficiency Finance Mechanism Roadmap Preparation Project, it aims to ensure the more effective and widespread use of existing energy efficiency financing sources, create new resources, and direct international investors and fund providers toward energy efficiency investments in Turkey through workshops, conferences, and other necessary activities.
Moreover, TETHYS seeks to bring all stakeholders in the mining sector together on a neutral platform to reach a consensus agreement, in line with the principles and regulations of the National Energy and Mining Policy based on supply security, localization, and predictable market fundamentals. It aims to foster compatibility between the business environment and the supplier infrastructure, particularly with the European Green Deal and sustainable development goals.
TETHYS strives to establish an objective platform where stakeholders from around the world can come together. It provides central services for planning, incentives, ideas, and proposals, all gathered with the consent of all stakeholders. This collaborative effort serves as the foundation of Turkey's national and global mining policy and strategy, as outlined in the Green Deal.
TETHYS: Trans-Eurasian Gateway is a "Free Trade Platform" established to draw attention to the supply security of Critical Raw Materials, which are of vital importance for the transition to Green Energy, especially within the scope of the Green Transformation and the Paris Climate Agreement, and to create the necessary ecosystem to restrict the sale of materials, minerals, and metals listed in the US and EU Critical Minerals Lists, primarily as ores, with a focus on reducing dependence on China. It aims to form a portfolio consisting of companies operating in the critical raw materials-renewable energy-hydrogen-mining sector and provide international investments and other financial support to portfolio companies.
The main objectives of TETHYS are as follows:
- Bringing together relevant institutions in Turkey (mining companies producing metallic ore and industrial raw materials, public institutions such as Eti Maden A.Ş. and MTA), international financial institutions, and EU industrial and technology companies, especially those dependent on EU funds.
- Preventing disruptions in the raw material supply and procurement plans of EU industrial organizations by providing long-term supply and procurement agreements between mining companies and companies purchasing these raw materials.
- Reporting the reserve mineral resources of mining companies in international standards and preparing feasibility reports and investment projections in line with the standards that EU funds will consider for the establishment of enrichment facilities and processing plants for resources.
- Initiating efforts to access European Eximbank loans using products from European-origin mineral plant installation and machinery equipment manufacturers and diversifying financing opportunities for facility investments.
- Drawing attention to the risks of some countries using the raw material resources listed in the EU Critical Minerals List as a political and economic threat and regulating the sale of these materials in Turkey as ores.
- Accelerating research activities to increase the existing resources of local mining companies and discover new resources after diversifying financial resources and access, thereby increasing the production capacity and lifespan of these facilities.
